BIO

A Creative Presence

Joy Goh is a guitarist, composer, and recording artist currently based in the Netherlands. He was awarded the best young talent at the Taipei Jazz Festival in 2015.


Graduated from one of the most admired schools in the world, the Royal Conservatory of

The Hague (Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag). During his studies, Joy had his main

lessons with the great Martijn van Iterson, Antoine Boyer, Pedro Martins, John Ruocco,

Toon Roos, Jarmo Hoogendijk, and Youngchan Na.


By pursuing his greatest passion, Brazilian music, he also became a disciple of

Kees Gelderblom from Codarts and a disciple of Marcel Powell, the son of Brazilian guitar

legend Baden Powell. Marcel was Baden Powell's only student, and Joy learned

Baden Powell's secret technique from the only person who knows it.


Joy is now leading his Samba/Original band, Orixa no Yokai, which has a dancing audience

and released a digital album in 2022. He frequently performs with different singers in small

formations such as duos, trios, etc. Joy has regular Brazilian music projects with amazing musicians such as Alaor Soares, Viviani Godoy, Yoryia Gourdoupi, Martina Effy, etc. They have played music for Music Festivals, Theaters, Cultural Centers, Jazz bars, etc. Additionally, Joy also gives solo guitar performances.


He has performed with Brazilian Music Projects at great venues such as Tivoli Vredenburg, Concert Hall de Doelen, PAARD, etc., and more will arise in the future.
